Great Taste is the biggest and most reliable food and drinks accreditation scheme in the world! When you spot those little gold stars on a label, you know you are in for a treat. 

Great Taste supports and promotes producers of fine food and drinks, and helps you to make informed choices about what you buy. Seeing plant-based products win Great Taste awards is super exciting (but not surprising!) We can see more and more people learning that plant-based is best! 

What are the Great Taste awards?

Established almost 30 years ago by the Guild of Fine Food Retailers, the Great Taste awards is an accreditation scheme designed to champion producers of truly delicious food and drink. 

Since the first awards ceremony when less than 100 entries were submitted, the Great Taste Awards have grown exponentially in scope, influence, and diversity. 

Since 1994, over 150,000 products have been tasted, tested and judged by a team of Great Taste experts. Now customers all over the world recognise that little black and gold logo on Great Taste awards products (and the tastiness it promises!). 

How are the products selected?

Despite so much growth, the Great Taste awards have stayed true to its roots. The Great Taste ethos is that the best food and drinks are those that are made with the finest fresh and local ingredients and prepared in small batches with love. It is this winning combination that creates truly great taste! 

Producers large and small may submit their products each year for testing. A team of expert judges (made up of chefs, cooks, buyers, retailers, restaurateurs, food critics and writers) then participate in a series of blind-tasting days.

Without branding or packaging, Great Taste awards products are judged on their aroma, texture, mouthfeel, and most importantly, TASTE!

What do the Great Taste stars mean? 

All winning Great Taste awards products are adorned with a circular black label with gold stars. Here’s what to look out for, next time you’re having a browse…

1 star: Simply delicious (around 25% of entries receive this rating). 

2 stars: Outstanding (less than 10% of entries receive this rating). 

3 stars: Exquisite - these products are extraordinary and you shouldn’t leave the site without adding them to your basket! (less than 2% of entries receive this rating).
